What are the Advantages of Rotational Molding?
Compared with injection molding, blow molding, extrusion molding and other processing methods, rotational molding has the following characteristics:
Rotational molding process is done completely free of pressure. The resin is fed into a hollow mold and heated in a oven and rotated slowly both vertically and horizontally. As the tool heats up and the raw material melts and begins to distribute to the inner surface of the tool until it has completely melted. After cooling phrase, this end product is hollow inside. This unique feature allows rotational molding manufacturing anything as thin as 1mm wall. The process is ideal for a variety of product, whether it is simple or complex shapes, small or large size, and as well as a wide application in the both commercial and industry, from a toy even to the application.
Products that made of rotational molding is virtually seamless shape with a uniform wall thickness and excellent surface finish details , few stress points because of more material in corners to absorb shocks and stresses where they occur most. As the rotational molding keeps rotating at all times during the heating phase and to avoid sagging or deformation also during the cooling phase. Wall thickness is even adjustable without modifying the rotational molding tooling.
Rotational molding tooling is simple and lightweight, easy for maintenance and management. Once the pattern has been designed, the lead time for a mould is fairly short and each one is relatively inexpensive to make when compared to injection and blow moulding. This allows for large-scale production runs and repeated manufacturing at a lower cost
Rotational molding allows for manufacturing complex products having multi-wall and parts with foam inside. The inserts, curves, and contours can all be part of the design by feeding a measured quantity of material into the mould. The rotational molding process results in a complicated multi layer products with superior strength and close tolerances by eliminating secondary operations, while save both the time and money .
Without the gate and cavity flow distribution, very little material is wasted during the rotational molding process, and excess material is often re-used, making it economical and environmentally friendly. The set-up of loading and uploading the mould is easy when shifting the colour in production
The demolding of rotational molding is basically by manual, The mold itself can be highly intricate to facilitate the molding of a wide range of products in complex shapes and structures , which are difficult to achieve by using other molding methods. The mould can include inserts, curves, and contours as well as logos. The plastic resin can add additives for moisture protection, flame retardancy, static elimination, color and texture. In a word, the rotational molding is so versatile and highly customizable that everything from colors, graphics, inserts and mold treatments can be designed to the specific requirements
