Why Rotational Molding Produces Premium Quality Plastic Toolbox?
Plastic toolbox has certain advantages over their steel and aluminum counterparts. They are lighter in weight and generally less expensive and they won't rust, chip, dent or sag. Anything that can be made of metal can also be made from plastic
Certain type of plastic toolbox for keeping fragile and expensive equipment requires rugged and durable outer shells that offers protection from shock and vibration as well as from elements such moisture, salt spray, dust, dirt and water immersion. Rotational molding is commonly known as an ideal process to create hollow parts and products, offering a great solution to produce premium quality plastic toolbox to fit this specific requirement.
Rotational molding process
A predetermined amount of powder resins is loaded to a hollow mold and heated over an oven. The mold is slowly rotated both vertically and horizontally while being heated. As the resin melts and begins to distribute and fuse evenly throughout the entirety of the mold until it has completely melted. The mold is then cooled by air or water spray or a combination of both while still rotating. This gradually lowers the temperature. Once the parts are cooled, the finished product is removed and the mold is ready for the next cycle.
Rotational molding advantage
This process effectively produces seamless parts with consistent thicknesses and added corner materials to increase impact resistance. With a high load bearing capability due to their seamless, one-piece construction, plastic toolbox made by rotational molding is highly rugged and durable to prevent its inner contents from being damaged or destroyed. In addition to this, the custom-molded interior of the toolbox allows for cradling and shock absorption, which provides increased protection for tools and equipment. A wide range of accessories, such as the plastic or metal inserts, for panel mounting equipment, reinforcing ribs, and plus more, can be easily molded in as integral parts of the products. A variety of finishes and color can be molded-in for reducing maintenance and guaranteeing long-lasting appearance
Material advantage
The particular material used for rotational molding is polyethylene. This kind of material has excellent characteristics, including excellent water resistance impact resistance, temperature stability, chemical resistance, color, UV stability and durability. In addition, polyethylene is lightweight, easily processed and offer near-zero moisture absorption. This means that the contents inside the toolbox will not be subjected to any type of fluid or moisture, which allows the plastic toolbox to be transported in outdoor rainy environment. With recent developments in additive technology, polyethylene can be tailored to suit to specialist applications such as Fire Retardant, anti-static/conductive and anti-bacterial.
