How to Test the Strength of Rotomolded Products and Parts
In the rotational molding industry, the strength is measured to check if quality of the rotomolded products or parts can mee the requirements for using in different application. Below are typical methods to test the strength of rotomolded products.
1. Strength testing equipment
The most commonly used testing instruments include e testing machine, impact testing machine, compression testing machine, bending testing machine. By applying different loads and mechanical conditions on the rotomolded products, those testing equipment can measure their strength properties.
2. Tensile impact test
Tensile strength is one of the important criteria to evaluate the tensile breaking performance of materials. For those plastic products and parts made by rotomolding process, tensile strength can be measured with a tensile testing machine. Clamp a sample product or part on a tensile testing machine, and then gradually increase tensile force until the sample breaks. The tensile strength can be calculated according to the maximum tensile force before breaking and the cross-sectional area of the sample,
3. Impact strength test
Impact strength is one of the criteria for evaluating the impact resistance of product. For some products or parts that need to withstand impact resistance, such as automotive parts, construction machinery, etc., the inspection of impact strength is particularly important. The impact strength of a rotomolded product can be test by impact testing machine. During the test, the sample is fixed on the testing machine, and a standard impact hammer is used to impact the sample. The impact strength is measured based on the energy absorption.
4. Compression impact test
Compressive strength is one of the important criteria to evaluate the compressive property of the product. Some rotomolded products or parts need to bear pressure or applied loading. A compression testing machine can be used for testing compressive strength. A sample is placed on the compression testing machine, and the pressure is gradually increased until the sample is deformed or broken. The compressive strength can be calculated from the maximum pressure applied and the surface of the sample.
5. Bending impact test
Bending strength is one of the important criteria to evaluate the bending impact of product. The rotomolded products such as flexible pipes and curved components, the bending impact is particularly important. Samples can be tested for flexural strength by a flexural testing machine. Place the sample on a bending testing machine, and a gradually increase bending force until the sample breaks or reaches a certain degree of bending. According to the maximum bending force applied and the geometric parameters of the sample, the bending impact can be calculated.
By using the appropriate approach of testing instruments and testing methods, the strength of rotomolded products or parts can be accurately measured to ensure the quality meets the requirements for using in different applications.
